The inspiration for these vessels comes from the contrasts and vitality of the landscapes of the many countries which I have visited over the years. The colours and textures of the African and Australian landscapes have been particularly inspirational in my work.
The forms, which are hand-built by the coiling and slab methods are fired in an electric kiln to 1270°C. A grogged clay body is used to emphasize textures, which are further enhanced by slips, oxides and glazes. I usually work in a series of 5 or 6 pots, trying to depict a different mood in each one of them. Many pieces are fired several times with more oxides and glaze applied to get the required textural effect.
